Therapy modalities used
Solution focused therapy (SFT)
My main type of therapy is solution focused therapy. I also use cognitive behavioral therapy and play therapy.
Solution Focused is one of the founding therapies under the Positive Psychology umbrella. Solution Focused Therapy is a hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral and cognitive change.
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) was first developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. Interested in research, Steve and Insoo studied what was lead to positive outcomes for individuals and realized working with individuals natural talents and strengths had a greater positive outcome then focusing on what was considered wrong or deficiencies of an individual.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy helps individuals to recognize how one’s distortions in thinking is contributing to problems and then to reevaluate them in light of reality. It assist an individual to gain a better understanding of the behavior and motivation of others. This therapy also encourages developing problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations. and developing a greater sense of confidence in one’s own abilities.
Play Based Therapy
Children naturally learn through play by engaging in and making sense of their world. A therapist who can "speak" play is able to engage a child in the therapeutic process unlike traditional talk based therapies. Play based therapy is traditionally used with children 12 years and younger, but I've found play to be beneficial for teens and even adults!
